Samuel Peter survived three early knockdowns to pull away from Jameel McCline and keep the World Boxing Council heavyweight championship last night.Peter, nicknamed the Nigerian Nightmare, had trouble in the second and third rounds. But he held on, then dominated the latter rounds for a unanimous decision that was booed by the crowd at Madison Square Garden.McCline, a suspected target in a steroids investigation, seemed to be one solid punch away from the title in the third round. He decked Peter (29-1) twice, but did not have much left the rest of the way. McCline dropped to 38-8-3.
